Ames Chiropractor | Dr. Anthony Davis
I didn't think I needed a chiropractor either...now I am one!
I was a senior in high school and a member of the cross country team. During that season, I began having unrelenting back spasms during races which would start the first time I encountered an incline and not stop until well after I had finished the race. My times plummeted. I went to many doctors and underwent numerous tests. I was told repeatedly that there was nothing wrong and to keep taking high doses of anti-inflammatory medication, which wasn't actually helping at all. My frustration was mounting!
My coach finally convinced me to see the local chiropractor. Why not? I had seen everyone else. Needless to say, my expectations were pretty low. But then, something really cool happened. He performed an examination and took some x-rays. He showed me the misalignments in my spine and explained how those could be creating my problems. I started on a course of adjustments and saw improvement. Unfortunately, it was not in time to salvage my season, but it left me with a very favorable view of chiropractic. If only I had started sooner!
The Path to Becoming a Chiropractor
After graduating from Madrid High School in 1993, I came to Iowa State University to get a degree in genetics and begin the path toward making the world a better place through biotechnology research. After graduation, I was working in a lab and thinking through options for graduate school. What I came to discover was that I really wanted to help people in a more direct way. I thought back about my experience with chiropractic care in the past and decided that it would be a great career option for me. It was the best decision I've ever made!
After weighing options for chiropractic college, I attended Cleveland Chiropractic College. While at Cleveland, I was introduced to Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique through a presentation by Dr. Arlen Fuhr, one of the co-founders of the technique. With my background in research, I was blown away by how many studies had been published showing the effectiveness of this style of chiropractic care. After getting treated with Activator by one of the instructors at my school, I was hooked! While still in school, I spent many weekends traveling to seminars to learn more. Before graduating with honors from Cleveland in 2001, I had already passed Activator's Basic Proficiency Examination.
My education didn't stop once I crossed the graduation podium. I attend numerous seminars each year to stay on the leading edge of developments in health and healing. In 2006, I achieved an Advanced Proficiency Rating in Activator and I was named an Associate Clinical Instructor in 2011.
A Chiropractic Family
I met my beautiful wife, Kel Anne, while I was in chiropractic school and we were married in 2004. We are both native Iowans and enjoy living near our families. We enjoy live music and theatre, riding bikes and taking walks and hikes in the outdoors.
I am also a lifelong Cyclone fan, which helped me to choose Ames as the place where I have chosen to live and practice. Don't worry, we take care of Hawkeyes and Panthers, too!
Enough about me! How can we help you with today’s safe and natural chiropractic care? Give our Ames chiropractic office call so we can help you take your first step towards better health.
